FTA-Compliant UAE E-Invoicing: How to Choose the Right Provider
Not all invoicing software qualifies for UAE e-invoicing compliance. Here is what FTA compliance actually means and what to look for when selecting an accredited service provider.
What FTA Compliance Means
The Federal Tax Authority (FTA) administers VAT and works alongside the Ministry of Finance (MoF) on the e-invoicing programme. "FTA-compliant" means the invoice format, content, and submission process meet the requirements set out in the UAE VAT legislation and the MoF e-invoicing regulations.
This is distinct from being "MoF-accredited" — accreditation refers to the service provider being formally approved to connect to the UAE e-invoicing network. You need both: a compliant invoice format and an accredited submission channel.
What Accredited Service Providers Do
An Accredited Service Provider (ASP) acts as the intermediary between your accounting system and the MoF transmission network. The ASP:
- Validates invoice data against the mandatory field schema
- Applies digital signatures to ensure authenticity
- Transmits invoices to the buyer through the approved channel
- Receives acknowledgement or rejection notifications
- Stores invoices in a compliant archive
Key Criteria When Selecting a Provider
1. MoF Accreditation
Only providers formally listed on mof.gov.ae can legally transmit UAE e-invoices. Verify accreditation before signing any contract.
2. UAE Data Residency
For regulatory and FTA audit purposes, invoice data should be stored in the UAE. Ask providers explicitly where your data is hosted.
3. Integration With Your Accounting System
A good provider integrates directly with your existing software — not through manual uploads. This eliminates double entry and reduces errors.
4. Arabic Language Support
All invoices issued to UAE buyers must include Arabic fields. Ensure your provider's output meets this requirement.
5. SME Pricing
Enterprise-grade e-invoicing platforms can be expensive. Look for providers with pricing that scales to your transaction volume.
6. Local Support
E-invoicing issues that arise during your phase go-live will need fast resolution. UAE-based support with local timezone availability is essential.
