Free Accounting Software in the UAE: What You Really Get (2026)

Free trials, limited free plans and free betas are not the same thing. What to check before you trust free accounting software with UAE VAT records.

Editorial disclosure: Pyalm publishes and maintains the products and free tools discussed on this site. Regulatory statements are linked to primary sources where applicable. No independent professional review is claimed unless a reviewer is explicitly named.

Searching for free accounting software in the UAE returns a mix of genuinely free tools, free trials and limited plans. They are not the same, and the difference matters when your VAT records are involved.

Four kinds of "free"

  1. Free trial. Full features for a short period, then you pay or lose access. Fine for evaluation, risky as a long-term home for your records.
  2. Free plan with limits. Free forever, but capped by invoices, users or features. VAT features are often on the paid tier.
  3. Free open-source or self-hosted. No licence fee, but you pay in setup, hosting and support.
  4. Free beta. The product is free while it is being tested. Pricing afterwards may change.

What to check before you rely on a free tool

  • VAT: does it handle 5% VAT, zero-rated and exempt supplies, and produce a VAT report?
  • TRN on invoices: can invoices carry the details a UAE tax invoice needs?
  • Data export: can you take your data out as CSV or Excel if you leave?
  • Record keeping: the FTA expects records to be kept for several years, so check how long your data is retained.
  • What happens when the free period ends?

Where Pyalm Books fits

Pyalm Books is free while it is in beta, with no card needed. It includes VAT, invoicing, POS, inventory, purchases, banking and reports. Pricing after the beta has not been announced, so we recommend exporting your data regularly, as you should with any software.

Free tools that need no account at all
