How to Convert PowerPoint to PDF for Handouts and Sharing

Save a .pptx presentation as a PDF handout for free in your browser, and when to use PowerPoint's own export instead.

Clients, portals and colleagues without PowerPoint all open PDFs. Converting a deck to PDF is the standard way to share it as a handout — it can't be edited by accident and looks the same on any device.

How to convert PowerPoint to PDF

  1. Open the free PowerPoint to PDF converter.
  2. Choose your .pptx file — slide previews appear.
  3. Click Save as PDF, choose Save as PDF in the print dialog, and set margins to None.

Each slide becomes one landscape page.

What this converter renders

It reads the slides directly in your browser and places each slide's text boxes (with size, colour, bold and italic where set) and pictures at their positions. It does not render theme backgrounds, slide masters, charts, SmartArt or animations.

That makes it ideal for text-and-image decks and quick handouts. For heavily designed decks, use PowerPoint's File → Export → PDF or Keynote's File → Export To → PDF for a pixel-perfect copy.

Old .ppt files

Only .pptx is supported. Open older .ppt files in PowerPoint, Keynote or Google Slides and save as .pptx.

Handout tips

  • Add slide numbers before exporting so people can refer to them.
  • Remove hidden and backup slides you don't want to share.
  • Compress large decks with Compress PDF before emailing.
  • Combine the deck with a proposal or datasheet using Merge PDF.

Why browser-based PDF tools are safer

Most online PDF sites upload your file to their servers. Pyalm's PDF tools run entirely in your browser — the file is read, processed and saved on your own device and never sent anywhere. That matters for contracts, invoices, bank statements and ID documents.

Delivering training decks?

Pyalm Learn hosts presentations, videos and documents as structured courses — with quizzes, assignments, progress tracking and certificates — so learners don't just get a PDF, they get a programme.
