Extract tables from PDFs into an Excel spreadsheet for free, with tips for bank statements and what to do when columns don't line up.

Bank statements, supplier price lists, sales reports and ageing reports often arrive as PDFs — useless for sorting, filtering or reconciling. Converting them to Excel turns them back into data.
How to convert a PDF to Excel
- Open the free PDF to Excel converter.
- Choose your PDF.
- Pick one sheet per page (best for long statements) or all in one sheet.
- Click Download Excel (.xlsx) — or CSV if you prefer.
A preview shows the first page's rows and columns.
How it works
The converter reads where every piece of text sits on the page. Text on the same line becomes a row; wherever there's a consistent horizontal gap, a new column begins. Numbers like 1,234.50, (200.00) or AED 45 are converted into real numeric cells, so SUM and pivot tables work immediately.
Getting clean columns
If two columns merge, lower the column gap setting; if one column is split in two (e.g. long descriptions), raise it. Then convert again. Afterwards in Excel:
- Delete repeated page headers and footers (filter on a header word, delete visible rows).
- Use Text to Columns for any remaining merged cells.
- Check totals against the PDF.
Bank statements
Converting statements to Excel is the most common use. For regular reconciliation, though, use the bank's CSV export where available, or the Bank Statement Converter to normalise CSV files — and Pyalm Books to match transactions against invoices and bills automatically.
Scanned PDFs
Scans contain images, not text, so there's nothing to extract without OCR.
Why browser-based PDF tools are safer
Most online PDF sites upload your file to their servers. Pyalm's PDF tools run entirely in your browser — the file is read, processed and saved on your own device and never sent anywhere. That matters for contracts, invoices, bank statements and ID documents.
From PDF tables to automated data entry
If someone in your team keys supplier invoices or statements into your system every week, AI can do it — reading PDFs and scans, extracting line items, and posting them for approval. See Pyalm's AI implementation services.
