How to Remove a Password from a PDF You Can Open

Save an unlocked copy of a password-protected PDF — bank statements, e-statements and payslips — when you know the password.

Banks, telecom providers and payroll systems lock statements with your date of birth, part of your account number or your mobile number. That's sensible in transit, but tedious when you're archiving a year of statements or sending them to your accountant.

How to remove a PDF password

  1. Open the free Unlock PDF tool.
  2. Choose the locked PDF.
  3. Enter its password (leave it blank for permission-only locks).
  4. Click Unlock & download — you get a copy that opens without a password.

Decryption runs in your browser; the file and password never leave your device.

Common statement password formats

Check the email the statement came with — it usually explains the format. Typical patterns:

  • Date of birth as DDMMYYYY or DDMM
  • Last 4–6 digits of your account, card or customer number
  • First letters of your name + date of birth
  • Registered mobile number

Permission-only locks

Some PDFs open without a password but block printing or copying. These have only an owner password; leaving the password field blank usually unlocks them.

This tool doesn't crack passwords

It decrypts files using the password you supply. Only unlock documents you own or are entitled to share.

Re-lock before sharing

If you're sending unlocked statements on, consider adding your own password with Protect PDF, or combine them first with Merge PDF.

Why browser-based PDF tools are safer

Most online PDF sites upload your file to their servers. Pyalm's PDF tools run entirely in your browser — the file is read, processed and saved on your own device and never sent anywhere. That matters for contracts, invoices, bank statements and ID documents.

Unlocking statements to reconcile them?

Pyalm Books imports bank statements and matches transactions against invoices and bills, so month-end reconciliation doesn't start with a folder of locked PDFs.
