How to Convert HEIC to JPG (iPhone Photos That Won't Upload)

Why iPhones save HEIC photos, why portals and Windows reject them, and how to convert them to JPG in bulk — free and private.

You try to upload a photo from your iPhone to a visa portal, job site or government service and get "unsupported file type". The culprit is HEIC — the format iPhones use by default.

What is HEIC?

HEIC (High Efficiency Image Container) stores photos at roughly half the size of a JPG at similar quality. Apple adopted it in iOS 11. The problem: many websites, Windows apps and older Android devices can't open it.

Convert HEIC to JPG in bulk

  1. Open the free HEIC to JPG converter.
  2. Drop in your .heic files — as many as you like.
  3. Choose JPG (smallest, universal) or PNG (lossless).
  4. Download them individually or all at once as a ZIP.

The first conversion loads a small decoder; after that each photo takes a second or two. Photos never leave your device.

Stop your iPhone saving HEIC

Settings → Camera → Formats → Most Compatible. New photos are saved as JPG. Existing photos stay HEIC.

Alternatively, iOS converts automatically when you share by email or AirDrop to some apps — but not reliably when uploading through a browser.

Upload requirements to watch

Portals often specify more than format:

Privacy bonus

Converting removes EXIF metadata, including GPS coordinates, so the JPG doesn't reveal where the photo was taken.

Your images stay on your device

Pyalm's image tools process files with your browser's canvas. Nothing is uploaded — useful for ID photos, product shots before launch, and screenshots containing customer data.

Building an app that handles photo uploads?

If your customers upload photos — IDs, products, damage claims — your app should accept HEIC and convert it automatically. Pyalm builds mobile apps and websites that handle uploads gracefully on every device.
