Your title tag and meta description are your advert in Google's results. Ranking gets you seen; the snippet decides whether you get the click.
Length is measured in pixels
Google truncates titles at roughly 580–600 px on desktop — about 50–60 characters, but "W" is far wider than "i". Descriptions show around 920 px on desktop (roughly 150–160 characters) and less on mobile.
Preview both with the free SERP Snippet Preview. It measures real pixel width, shows desktop and mobile results, bolds your keyword like Google does, and runs quick checks.
Title tag formulas
- Primary keyword — benefit | Brand
"VAT Calculator UAE — Add or Remove 5% VAT Free | Pyalm"
- Service in Location | Brand
"Website Development Company in Dubai | Pyalm"
- Number + keyword + promise
"12 Free PDF Tools That Never Upload Your Files"
- Question the searcher is asking
"How Is EMI Calculated? Formula and Examples"
Put the important words first — they survive truncation.
Meta description formulas
Answer "why should I click this result?":
- What the page gives them, specifically
- A differentiator (free, no signup, UAE-specific, updated 2026)
- An implicit call to action
"Add or remove 5% UAE VAT in seconds, run reverse VAT and check profit after VAT. Free, no signup — built for businesses in Dubai and across the GCC."
Why Google rewrites them
Google rewrites titles and descriptions it considers too long, keyword-stuffed, boilerplate or irrelevant to the query — often using your H1 or on-page text instead. To keep yours:
- Keep the title consistent with the H1.
- Make every page's title and description unique.
- Describe the page accurately; don't bait.
