Most event tickets sold in the UAE are subject to VAT at the standard rate of 5%. Getting it wrong is costly: you either pay the VAT out of your own margin or under-declare it to the FTA.

The basics
- Rate: 5% standard rate on most tickets
- Place of supply: admission to an event is generally treated as supplied where the event takes place, so events in the UAE are generally subject to UAE VAT
- Pricing: prices shown to consumers should be VAT-inclusive
- Registration: businesses above the mandatory threshold must register for VAT
Working out the VAT in a ticket price
VAT = price × 5 ÷ 105
A AED 210 ticket includes AED 10 VAT, so your revenue is AED 200. Use the free VAT calculator to check.
Tax invoices
Corporate buyers will want a tax invoice showing your TRN, the VAT amount and the buyer's details. Your ticketing platform should issue one automatically with every order.
Edge cases
- Complimentary tickets: free tickets given as business gifts or for promotion can have VAT consequences. Get advice for large allocations.
- Refunds: issue a tax credit note so your VAT return reflects the refund.
- Booking fees: fees charged to the buyer are generally part of the taxable value.
- Sponsorship: sponsorship income is usually a separate taxable supply.
