Why Is an Event Permit Needed for Abu Dhabi Events? (And How It Differs From Dubai)
Why events in Abu Dhabi need permits, which authority is involved, how the process differs from Dubai's DET (DTCM), and how to plan an event across both emirates.

Abu Dhabi hosts world-class concerts, sports, exhibitions and cultural events. Like Dubai, it requires approvals for public and ticketed events, but it's a separate process with a different authority. A Dubai DTCM/DET permit doesn't cover an event in Abu Dhabi.
This is a planning guide, not legal advice. The authorities set the rules and change them from time to time, so confirm the current requirements for your event before you commit to dates.
Who's involved in Abu Dhabi?
Events and entertainment in Abu Dhabi are typically regulated by the Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi (DCT Abu Dhabi), alongside the venue and other bodies such as police and civil defence. Requirements depend on the event type, so confirm what applies with the authority and your venue early.
Why permits are needed
The reasons mirror Dubai's:
- Safety: capacity, crowd management, medical and structural safety
- Consumer protection: legitimate events, fair ticketing and clear terms
- Cultural standards: content that respects local values and guidelines
- Coordination: police, transport and health authorities plan around events
- Tourism: consistent quality for a growing events calendar

Running an event in both emirates?
- Apply separately in each emirate, with each venue's paperwork.
- Allow at least as much lead time in Abu Dhabi as in Dubai.
- Keep ticket categories consistent where you can, so marketing stays simple.
- Plan crew travel and hardware logistics from Dubai. See planning an event in Abu Dhabi.
